NPES - The resource of choice for the graphic communications industry

Government Affairs Activities

Members of NPES The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies, Printing Industries of America, and allied industry associations convened in Washington, D.C., June 2-3, 2015 for PRINT’S VOICE 15 to bring top priority graphic communications industry business concerns directly to their elected representatives and other congressional leaders.

In its 5th year, PRINT’S VOICE has grown into a signature event that brings printers and suppliers together for a powerful program of public policy education, issue advocacy, interaction with Members of Congress and social events on Capitol Hill. During this year’s PRINT’S VOICE 15 Capitol Hill Fly-In participants advocated for:

  • Restructuring and revitalizing the U.S. Postal System
  • Curtailing abusive “patent troll” practices
  • Reducing burdensome government over-regulation
  • Preserving pro-growth business tax policy, and
  • Strengthening U.S. exporters’ competitiveness in international trade.

The need for enacting postal reform legislation this year was the focus of two recent meetings with members of Congress hosted by Océ North America and NPES. These meetings were the latest in NPES’s effort to engage elected officials on the Association’s government affairs priorities.

"Engaging members of Congress is key to NPES Government Affairs," said NPES President Ralph J. Nappi. More specifically, Nappi added, "NPES members’ communications and interactions with their elected representatives are absolutely essential to advocating the Association’s and industry’s public policy agenda, and is the focus of NPES Government Affairs activities for 2012 and the future.

Chicago Area NPES Members Meet Congressman Joe Walsh

Xeikon America Hosts Meeting in Itasca

Congressman Walsh addressed attendees

Congressman Walsh addressed attendees at Xeikon-hosted
meeting on issues facing the printing and publishing
industries, and stressed his support for postal reform.

Executives of Chicago area NPES member companies had an informative and lively exchange of opinions and ideas with U.S. Representative Joe Walsh (R-8-IL) on September 27 during the congressman’s visit to Xeikon America’s plant in Itasca, which is located in the new 8th Congressional District of Illinois.

The event was organized as part of NPES Government Affairs’ continuing efforts to connect Association members with their elected representatives in Congress, and as a follow- on to this past June’s successful Capitol Hill Fly-In/Print’s Voice 2012. According to NPES President Ralph Nappi, the meeting at Xeikon America was the second step in a two-part strategy of engaging members of Congress both in Washington, D.C. and in their congressional districts.

NPES Takes Postal Reform Message to Congress

Industry Unites for Capitol Hill Fly-In/Print’s Voice 2012

Group on Capitol steps

Over a dozen NPES member company executives joined with members of Printing Industries of America to urge support for the H.R. 2309, Postal Reform Act of 2012. They collectively visited over 50 congressional offices June 5-7, meeting with both elected representatives and staff during the second annual Capitol Hill Fly-In/Print’s Voice 2012, jointly sponsored by the two partner associations.

Passing H.R. 2309 in the U.S. House of Representatives is the next milestone in enacting urgently needed postal reform legislation before the end of 2012 and the 112th Congress. The U.S. Senate passed a counterpart measure back in April, and a House/Senate conference committee is seen as the necessary forum to achieve the reforms and compromises required to put the Postal Service on a sustainable course for the future. During a luncheon on June 6, Fly-In participants thanked Senator Thomas R. Carper, (D-DE), principal co-sponsor of S.1789, The 21st Century Postal Service Act of 2012, for his leadership in gaining Senate approval of the measure.
