Market Data

OVERVIEW OF THE NPES MARKET DATA PROGRAM

This legally monitored and highly confidential program details shipments data for nearly 80 Product Categories. Primary areas of interest include: Imaging/Prepress, Systems and Software, Pressroom Equipment, Bindery/Finishing, and Graphic Arts Supplies. The flexibility of this program allows participants to recommend additional categories as new markets emerge, assuring that NPES remains THE authoritative source for printing and publishing market data. Data is published on a quarterly basis and made available only to active NPES member participants. From this data, members can gauge their performance with confidence, evaluate the emergence of new market trends, and forecast product sales.

Participation is...

EASY: Participating members submit data only for those categories for which they market products. Simply provide the numbers and Association Research Inc. (ARI) will do the rest. It's that easy!

CONFIDENTIAL: To ensure the confidentiality of individual company data, strict disclosure guidelines have been established by NPES and its legal counsel. Association Research Inc., an independent consulting firm, fills the role of confidential agent in the collection, tabulation, and dissemination of data. Furthermore, strict adherence to government antitrust guidelines makes it possible for competitors to work together in a legal forum.

FREE: There is never a fee to participate in this unique program. NPES provides this service as a part of your membership.

NPES conducts this data collection effort through an independent third party to ensure the confidentiality of participating members. To further safeguard individual company data, the Market Data Committee and the NPES Legal Counsel have incorporated Disclosure Guidelines into the program.

Nearly 30 companies participate in this unique program and the list keeps growing. Participation is open to any active NPES member at no cost.

In an effort to minimize our members' data collection/reporting time and maximize their access to information, NPES launched the Electronic Reporting System (ERS). This system is designed to empower program participants by giving them access to a full line of electronic analysis tools and "real time" custom reports. No more long hours compiling sales reports - they'll be at your fingertips with ERS.

The NPES Market Data Program is administered through the efforts of the Market Data Committee. The Committee remains committed to providing timely, accurate, and informative market data to participating member companies and providing a resultant statistics function which is useful in recruiting new firms.

NPES Market Data Committee participation is open to representatives from any active NPES member company, and is divided into interest groups that monitor participation and developments in the various segments of the printing, publishing, and converting industries. The objectives and responsibilities of the Market Data Committee are to:

  • Ensure that NPES maintains and expands upon a useful, reliable Market Data Program to meet current membership needs.
  • Coordinate existing statistical services.
  • Seek out and evaluate the need for additional international statistical services and to make plans accordingly.
  • Explore better utilization, analysis, and dissemination by NPES of pertinent market data available from other sources.
  • Make recommendations as to the desirability of cooperation in statistical efforts with other organizations.
