EDUCATION

Education is the Association's oldest standing committee, founded to address the issues of securing a trained workforce for the industry. Its current mission is to develop and promote programs which support career awareness and education and training for a skilled work force and literate consumers of printed products.

The Committee directs the Association's financial support of and participation in industry-wide education programs, including the International Graphic Arts Education Association, the Print and Graphic Scholarship Foundation, the National Council for Skill Standards in Graphic Communications and the SkillsUSA Championships.

The Committee also serves as the Association's contact point for the NPES partnership with ProLiteracy Worldwide and grassroots efforts to promote a literate, reading public and the Print Partners program to encourage members to produce usable trade show printing and provide pro bono demonstration printing.

AFFILIATED PROGRAMS:

NPES ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND:

In 2001, the NPES Board of Directors created an endowed scholarship fund with a contribution of $300,000 to the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation. The purpose of this endowed scholarship is twofold: to encourage bright young people to plan for careers in the industry and to benefit the employees of NPES member companies.

In awarding endowed scholarships, first consideration will be given to
employees or children of employees of NPES members, enabling them to pursue
studies in graphic communications and related fields.

Additional consideration will be given to graduates of PrintED® accredited programs.

Applications must be postmarked by March 1st of each year for high school
students and by April 1st of each year for college students.

To obtain an application packet, visit the PGSF web site at www.pgsf.com, or contact PGSF Administrator Bernie Eckert at (412) 741-6860, Extension 309.

For information about PrintED, contact Eileen Cassidy, Director, Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation at phone: 866/381-9839 or at e-mail:
